Developing for mobile

Are you interested in adding content to m.unc.edu? The site is built on the Kurogo framework and provides a modular way of developing apps for mobile devices. The documentation on the framework explains how it all works and what existing functions you can leverage (RSS and iCal parsing, mapping via KML files, even plucking HTML out of existing web pages and more). The framework will handle the device detection and make sure that each device gets an optimized view without you having to code custom versions for every device. If you are interested in learning more, contributing a module, or just wonder if your idea is possible please contact Diana Woodhouse , Applications Lead for Student Affairs IT.

Smart911 and Guardian

UNC students, staff and faculty - use your mobile phone to enhance your safety on campus. Smart911 improves police and emergency response by providing added information that you might want available to a dispatcher, to police, or to emergency responders if you call 9-1-1. By providing rescue information with Smart911 in advance, you ensure that the information is accurate and appropriate. If an emergency does happen, dispatchers are already a step ahead.

Register your cell phone for FREE with the Smart911 system, and YOU choose what information to provide. Upload photos, physical descriptions, details about your place of residence and work, even medical or critical care information. Smart911 gives you the flexibility and personalization you want, allowing you to share any or all of this information.

What's next?

We recognize that this is just the starting point for providing a better mobile experience for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors. We're already working on new ideas and will continue to roll out new features in the future.
